Question: What Topics Are Best For eBooks?
Answer: I’ve found that the best topics for selling on the internet have to do with making money or saving people money. With these topics you’ll always have an audience, especially in tough economic times. Topics like how to get better credit, how to develop a new business or profitable sideline – like writing, marketing, and selling eBooks – these topics are timeless.
Also, look at what’s timely – for instance, right now during tax season a book on how to save money on your taxes would probably do quite well. During the summer something on budget-conscious vacations could get some sales. And a couple of years ago when there was a pet food recall, the searches for “natural” dog food skyrocketed. I’ll bet that eBooks on fixing dog food from scratch did a pretty brisk business at the time.
People never seem to get tired of how-to books – they’re always in the top ten. Especially the ones that teach what I call “hard” skills – skills that people can use to make or save money. There are exceptions to that; I’ve seen people do well with fiction books by posting them for free and getting fans. (More on that in a future blog!)
